Officials Pondering $25 Fee For Visting 9/11 Museum/Memorial
Officials are pondering imposing a $25 fee for visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum when they open to the general public. That’s got victims’ families and local politicians upset, and it raises questions over how the nonprofit overseeing the project is spending its money.
Moreover, it raises questions over priorities for Congress and Albany to appropriate sufficient funds to make sure that the site is free for all who wish to visit and pay their respects.
One possibility would be to impose fees on tour buses or cars parking in/near Ground Zero rather than on patrons to the site. After all, visiting key sites around the country are free - whether it’s Independence Hall, Federal Hall just a few blocks from Ground Zero, Pearl Harbor, or even Mount Rushmore (free to enter, but there’s a parking charge).
